Nudes-A-Poppin’ is an annual event hosted by the Ponderosa Sun Club, a nudist resort in Indiana. Attended by strippers, porn stars, and nudists alike, the long weekend attracts many people who just want enjoy the liberating feeling of being nude in public. It also brings throngs of men who remain clothed themselves while watching and photographing the erotic performances of women competing in events such as naked oil wrestling the “Amateur wet T-shirt contest”, “Sexiest Pole Dance competition”. I learned about Nudes-A-Poppin’ while creating a series on a local swingers club. At the time, I hoped that exposing myself to unconventional or extreme sides of sexual expression from behind the safe barrier of the camera, I might be able to find the place that my own sexuality fit in. Nudes-A-Poppin’ is where exhibitionist meets voyeur, where sex is served and consumed, and where some people just want to hang out naked outside on a summer's day.
